讲述了StuartGordon,consideredamasterofthehorrorgenrethankstoclassicslikeRe-AnimatorandDagon,decidestodoadifferentmoveinthisstrangetriptohumanmorals.KingoftheAntsisaboutaregularguy,SeanCrawley(newcomerChrisMcKenna),amanwithoutanyaspirationwhojustliveinhisapartmentdoingthenecessaryjobtolivetothenextday.InoneofhisjobshemeetsDuke(GeargeWendt),whointroducesSeantohisboss,RayMatthews(playedbyDanielBaldwin).RayhiresSeanasaspy,andordershimtofollowEricGatlin(RoyLivingstone),anaccountantwhohasbeeninvestigatingRayscompany.ProblemsstartwhenRay,whiledrunk,ordersSeantokillEric.Andhedoesit.ThingsgowrongwhenRaydecidestomakeSeandisappeardestroyinghismindwithviolentpunishmentandhumiliation.FromthepointwhereSeankillsEric,wegointhesameboatwithhim,ashegoesthroughadownwardspiralofhumandegradation,travelingfromguilt,toconfusionandfinallytohisrebirth,inastatewherehumanity,moralsandvaluesarenotimportantanymore.ChrisMcKennaactingisveryimportantbecausehemanagestobelikableevenwhenheispartofgruesomeacts,bothasvictimand/orcriminal.Hehasthatlookofinnocencethathidesadarksideandhemanagestocarrythefilm.ThesupportcastalsoincludesKariWuhrer,asEricswidowwhoalsobecomesacentralpartofSeanstriptohell.Shegivesafineperformance,althoughitsobviousthatSeanisthemaincharacter.HeisthemostdevelopedofallandMcKennasperformanceisuptothechallenge.Thefilmhasverydisturbingimagesofviolence,andwhileitmaynotbeasgraphicasKillBillforexample,thestrengthoftheviolenceisinthelackofhumanitythatthecharactermanifest.Heismorethananantinthisworld.Heistheking.StuartGordonhasmanagedtocreateafilmthat,whilemaybeitsnotoneofhisbestefforts;itsverywelldone,hasaVERYinterestingstorytotell,andmanagestocapturetheattentioneverysecondofit.
